On Sunday December 6, 2015 there will be the second edition of the San Remo Half Marathon “Cycling Riviera Run”. The engine of the organizing machine is warming, in the wake of the great results achieved last year. The formula will be the same, with the race covering the traditional distance of the half marathon (21,097km), the 10km and the Family Run. The finish line for all three races will be inside the athletics field of Pian di Poma in San Remo, where there will be the control center of the event.
The start of the San Remo Half Marathon 2015 (which is included in the Fidal calendar and classified “International”) will be at San Lorenzo al Mare, where the athletes will take the cycle/pedestrian path and remain on it up to the finish line. Same route for the 10km race, but the start will be at Arma di Taggia. The route of the Family Run (with the proceeds going again this year to a social association that works for the community) instead will develop on the western side of the cycle/pedestrian path, with the start at Ospedaletti and finish at Pian di Poma after about 2, 5 Km. Therefore the three races will touch all the communes crossed by the cycle/pedestrian path of the coastal park managed by Area 24.
In 2014 the event saw the participation of about 600 athletes. Most of them came from out the province, if not from out the region. Some in fact arrived from Southern Italy and even from France, with positive effects on tourism. What mostly stroked the athletes was the fantastic, panoramic route, completely overlooking the sea and protected from the vehicle route.
Among the characterizing aspects of the second edition, there’s the organizing committee that, along with Area 24 and the Nyala Wonder Travel, sees united the important local realities of athletics. It’s a significant milestone, the importance of which goes beyond this single event. The San Remo Half Marathon in fact is managed by the Foce Sanremo, which will be like in 2014 the official technical partner of the event, the Pro San Pietro and the Riviera Triathlon 1992. These three clubs are represented by their managers Vittorio Bertellotti, Bartolomeo Nobile and Daniele Moraglia (who is the president of the organizing committee).
Up to July 31 the registration fee will be €26 for the Half Marathon and €14 for the 10km race. There will also be a bus service that will take the roadrunners to the two starting points, bookable by the end of July for €1.
The San Remo Half Marathon 2014 for the male category has been won by Bruno Giraudo with the timing 1h14’36” followed by Alessandro Arnaudo (1h15’01”) and Lorenzo Trincheri (1h16’01”). The female podium instead was formed by the winner Joyce Muthoni Kagume with 1h24’01”, the second ranked Ingrid Lopergolo (1h27’32”) and by the third ranked Lorena Di Vito (1h32’10”).
